Mock Draft (updated: 4/1/2010)
1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford,QB,Oklahoma
The Rams have passed on franchise QB's the last few years early in the 1st round. While Suh is the best player the Rams already have 2 top 10 DT's on thier roster. As long as Bradford's shoulder holds up at his pro day he's going to be the pick.
2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh,DT,Nebraska
There's been talk of Okung being the pick here, but in the end I don't think Jim Schwartz can pass on the best player in the draft. Schwartz is a former D line coach and I think he's going to want Suh to be the centerpiece of that D line.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy,DT,Oklahoma
I've seen some reports of McCoy's stock slipping, the question is WHY? He had a great combine, was dominant in college, and is the quickest DT in this draft. He can get in the backfield and disrupt big time and that's what Tampa wants to get back to the glory days on defense.
4. Washington Redskins: Russell Okung,OT,Oklahoma State
The Redskins have a gaping hole at Left Tackle so no way should they bring in a rookie QB to get beat up for a season due to no viable blocking. First you build the line, then you get the QB, then you get the Super Bowl Rings. (Scarface in football terms)
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Bryan Bulaga,OT,Iowa
Scott Pioli doesn't like to take undervalued positions early in the draft, hence the reach for Jackson last year. Bulaga will enable Brandon Albert to move back to Guard and anchor a line to protect an overpaid QB.
6. Seattle Seahawks: CJ Spiller,RB,Clemson
I think this is too high for a RB, but Spiller is an explosive player and reports are that alot of teams are high on him and he's gonna go in the top 10.
7. Cleveland Browns: Eric Berry,FS,Tennessee
If Berry is still there when the Browns are on the clock they will run to the podium to turn their pick in. I think Cleveland is gonna get lucky with how the draft falls and get an Ed Reed clone.
8. Oakland Raiders: Bruce Campbell,OT,Maryland
Everyone knows this is going to be the pick. Campbell was one of this years workout warriors at the combine. Although it's a reach, it's not nearly as bad of a pick as Heyward-Bey. I think Oakland will get lucky and find themselves a stud LT.
9. Buffalo Bills: Jimmy Clausen,QB,Notre Dame
This is a reach in my opinion, but I think Buffalo is finished beating around the bush with Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards. Clausen is the only QB other than Bradford that could be a franchise QB in this draft and if they wait until the 2nd he'll be gone.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Morgan,DE,Georgia Tech
Pierre-Paul has the better physical attributes, but Morgan is more polished and has the production to back up his physical skills which are also very good. The Jags have a decent team and will take the DE that can help now, not a project for rebuilding.
11. Denver Broncos: Rolando McClain,ILB,Alabama
Usually Middle LB's aren't taken this early, but this guy is a beast and Nick Saban said he's the smartest defensive player he's ever coached. That's high praise coming from Saban and the Broncos could definitely use an ILB in their 3-4 scheme.
12. Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams,DT,Tennessee
Miami's current DT is 35 and suspended for the first 8 games of the season this year. Don't be suprised to see him cut after Williams is the selection. On a side note, with 2 top 15 picks you'd think Tennessee would've been better last season than what they were, but no.
13. San Francisco 49ers: Trent Williams,OT,Oklahoma
Williams may be the top overall Tackle in the draft, but most think he's gonna be a RT and that hurts his stock somewhat. Singletary will be glad to have this mauler at 13, he wants to be a run the ball, play good defense team and Williams will help with the run the ball part.
14. Seattle Seahawks: Anthony Davis,OT,Rutgers
The Seahawks will still be able to land a good offensive tackle at 14 after taking a RB with the 6th pick. Offensive Tackles are very valuable and fly off the board in every draft.
15. New York Giants: Sean Weatherspoon,OLB,Missouri
The Giants have a depleted linebacking core. Weatherspoon is the best OLB in this draft and will be an instant upgrade for them. DE could also be the pick as the Giants love to take D lineman early, but they are seriously lacking at LB.
16. Tennessee Titans: Jason Pierre-Paul,DE,South Florida
This guy gets Demarcus Ware comparisons, so to land him at 16 could end up being excellent value for the Titans here. They have lost Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch in the last 2 years to free agency, it's time to retool the D line.
17. San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Wilson,CB,Boise State
Wilson has jumped ahead of Haden as the number 1 Cornerback. After watching all the tape I just think Wilson brings more to the table, he's more physical, a little faster, and can cover just as well as Haden can.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Iupati,OG,Idaho
I think they are hoping McClain falls to them, but I don't think he's gonna. Rooney said the Steelers wanna get back to smashmouth football and this would be a good start. No one in the draft is more dominating over their respective positions than Iupati is at Guard.
19. Atlanta Falcons: Brandon Graham,DE,Michigan
Graham had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl and played himself into the 1st round. He is the disruptive force Atlanta needs on defense. Graham can get after the QB and get Dunta Robinson some int opportunities and a chance to earn that big contract he received.
20. Houston Texans: Joe Haden,CB,Florida
This could be a tough choice for Houston, Ryan Matthews will still be available and they need a RB, but I think Haden is the better value here and ultimately will be the pick. They have a huge void at CB after Dunta Robinson left via free agency.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Earl Thomas,FS,Texas
This will be a tough pick for the Bengals with Thomas and Dez Bryant both still on the board. Here's why they'd go with Thomas. The Antonio Bryant signing has alot of money tied up at WR. Next year's draft class is loaded with 1st round elite WR's and they will wait on one of those players. Earl Thomas has versatility to play FS and Corner which Zimmer will love about him. The Bengals gave up too many big plays last year and neither starting Safety has played a full season in a few years. Plus with Brat still here what's the point of wasting a 1st round pick for him to do nothing with. Seriously our offensive coaches don't develop players half as good as the defensive coaches.
22. New England Patriots: Jermaine Gresham,TE,Oklahoma
With Moss declining and Welker having the ACL injury and not being able to go at the start of the season, NE's best option in the passing game could be Julian Edelman. Wow how the mighty have fallen. Gresham will give Brady a big, stretch the middle of the field, red zone target.
23. Green Bay Packers: Charles Brown,OT,USC
I felt sorry for Aaron Rodgers last season, and as good as he is he will not be able to sustain another beating like that this year. Brown is great value here and this is probably the biggest need for the Packers.
24. Philadelphia Eagles: Sergio Kindle,OLB,Texas
The Eagles have 1 good LB and the rest are no better than backup quality. Kindle is a good value this late in the round and will immediately upgrade the LB position. CB could also be the pick here as Philly tried to trade McNabb for Asomougha and a draft pick.
25. Baltimore Ravens: Jared Odrick,DE/DT,Penn State
Jared Odrick will be a player Newsome likes, he has a high motor and can play the run and pass. He'll be a good fit a DE for the Ravens.
26. Arizona Cardinals: Taylor Mays,SS,USC
Mays size and speed combo isn't going to allow for him to fall out of the 1st round. Although his coverage is suspect someone will think they can coach him up and he may be the best athlete in the entire draft.
27. Dallas Cowboys: Dez Bryant,WR,Oklahoma State
I think Dallas realizes that Roy Williams is not very good and they overpaid to get him. Jerry Jones loves big names and Dez is a top 10 talent. Dez and Miles Austin could make a deadly duo and the Cowboys could once again find themselves in the Super Bowl.
28. San Diego Chargers: Ryan Matthews,RB,Fresno State
The LT era is over in SD. The Chargers have to replace a hall of fame RB and grab Matthews. He'll be a good compliment with Darren Sproles, a power back and a speed back.
29. New York Jets: Demaryius Thomas,WR,Georgia Tech
Thomas may take a year or two to develop, but he's got all the tools to be a pro bowl WR in the NFL, elite speed and good size and hands. With the Jets dominant defense and two viable options already at WR on thier roster the Jets can afford to make this pick.
30. Minnesota Vikings: Devin McCourtey,CB,Rutgers
The Vikings are old at CB and their starters are often injured. Minnesota will take advantage of this deep class of CB's and may end up with 2 good ones by the end of the draft.
31. Indianapolis Colts: Maurkice Pouncey,OG/OC,Florida
The Colts couldn't run the ball at all last year or the year before. In the Super Bowl the Saints just sat back in coverage, had Indy had any type of running game they'd be picking 32nd instead of 31st. Pouncey is a mauler in the run game.
32. New Orleans Saints: Brian Price,DT,UCLA
Price is excellent value with the last pick in the 1st round. Price teamed up with Sedrick Ellis would be a formidable duo on the interior defensive line. Price can get after the QB from the inside also and the Saints like to get pressure with just their front 4 and drop into coverage.
2nd Round
33. Rams: Golden Tate,WR,Notre Dame
The Rams are gonna need some WR's for their shiny new QB to throw it to. Tate would be good value with this pick as he's getting Steve Smith comparisons.
34. Lions: Roger Saffold,OT,Indiana
The Lions need a LT and to move Backus to Guard, he didn't play very well at Tackle last year. They have a possible franchise QB in Stafford and some decent weapons. If they can keep him upright they may end up with a good offense.
35. Buccaneers: Arrelious Benn,WR,Illinois
After losing Antonio Bryant in free agency Tampa has no one at WR. They have a young QB and they need to get him some weapons.
36. Chiefs: Damian Williams,WR,USC
Todd Haley is a former offensive coordinator that loves to throw the ball. He has 1 good WR and nothing else. Pioli will be okay with this pick as it provides good position value and after taking Berry in the 1st he won't allow another undervalued position to be drafted this early.
37. Redskins: Jahvid Best,RB,California
The Skins have 2 RB's who are at the end of their career. That and Shanahan loves to go with multiple backs, maybe just to aggravate fantasy owners. Anyway after Best there's a considerable dropoff at the RB position.
38. Browns: Jerry Hughes,DE/OLB,TCU
Unfortunately Bengals fans the Browns could be in position to really bolster their D. They could land either Berry or Haden and Jerry Hughes, all 1st Round talents and fill needs at the same time.
39. Raiders: Kareem Jackson,CB,Alabama
I think after the talk of Asamoagh for McNabb he's gonna want out of Oakland and corner will become a major need for the Raiders. I know Jackson doesn't have the best 40 time but he's a good player.
40. Chargers: Terrance Cody,DT,Alabama
The Chargers cut their only pure NT, who was getting old anyway. Cody will bring some youth to the position and he's massive. RB is also a huge need but there's no one of value at this spot.
41. Bills: Cam Thomas,DT,North Carolina
The Bills pass defense last season was excellent, now if they can build a front to stop the run they will be cooking with fire. They're transitioning to a 3-4 so they need a NT.
42. Buccaneers: Navarro Bowman,OLB,Penn State
The Bucs haven't had a LB of this caliber since Derrick Brooks at OLB. They will continue to upgrade D as that's what won them their lone Super Bowl a few years back. (more like 10)
43. Dolphins: Brandon LaFell,WR,LSU
It's no secret the Dolphins don't like to draft WR's in the 1st round, well Parcells doesn't, but they need someone with some size and there's a dropoff in talent after LaFell.
44. Patriots: Alex Carrington,DE,Arkansas State
Carrington will be a DE in a 3-4 and after trading Seymour last year NE struggled to get any production out of that position. This guy was a beast at the Senior Bowl the entire week.
45. Broncos: JD Walton,OG/OC,Baylor
The Broncos have great OT's but their interior lineman stunk last season. Walton could play either Guard or Center.
46. Giants: Everson Griffen,DE,USC
The Giants could end up getting someone they possibly targeted in the 1st. DE's don't usually slip like this but he's more of a 4-3 end and most of the teams with end needs are 3-4 teams.
47. Patriots: Jonathon Dwyer,RB,Georgia Tech
The Patriots could use a change of pace back, Kevin Faulk is 34 years old and they were reluctant to resign him this year.
48. Panthers: Carlos Dunlap,DE,Florida
The Panthers lost Julius Peppers to the Bears in free agency. They need a replacement, and Dunlap could end up being the best DE in this draft if he gets his head out of his ass.
49. 49ers: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah,CB,IUP
His draft stock has risen considerably and even though he's from division 2 he's a good player, with this pick the Niners could turn their secondary from a weakness to a strenth adding him with Taylor Mays.
50. Chiefs: Linval Joseph,DT,East Carolina
The Chiefs switched to the 3-4 last year but they don't have a true NT. Joseph will be a good pick to go with Tyson Jackson on that D line.
51. Texans: Brandon Ghee,CB,Wake Forest
The Texans have nothing at CB after letting Dunta Robinson walk in free agency. They could go corner in the 1st, but RB is just as big of a need.
52. Steelers: Chris Cook,CB/FS,Virginia
The Steelers need to upgrade at CB and need to add depth at Safety. Cook can play both positions and could fill both those needs.
53. Patriots: Koa Misi,OLB,Utah
The Pats failed to get any pass rush last season. Misi is a player with a good motor and good pass rushing skills and Belicek likes taking the hybrid end/LB's in the 2nd round.
54. Bengals: LaMarr Houston,DT,Texas
Zimmer will love Houston's versatility being able to play both DE and DT. He is great in pursuit of the ball carrier. For people who don't think DT is a need, remember what happened when Peko went down. Winning starts up front and I think Houston will be an upgrade over Tank and Sims. I believe the Bengals should take advantage of the DT depth in this draft, in other years Houston could easily have been a 1st rounder. DT's usually fly off the board, imo it's the most important position on the defense.
55. Eagles: Nate Allen,FS,South Florida
Allen would be great value here and there's a chance he slides this far down as Safeties drop every year. After trading Dawkins last year they are in need of an upgrade and Allen is a borderline 1st/2nd round talent.
56. Packers: Patrick Robinson,CB,Florida State
The Packers have the current Defensive Player of the Year at CB, but both their corners are on the north side of 30 and Harris is coming off an ACL injury, depth at corner is definitely needed.
57. Ravens: Tyson Alualu,DT,California
The Ravens lost some players on the D line and they will retool in this draft. In the AFC North line depth is a must and Alualu is a high motor player Newsome will like.
58. Cardinals: Jason Worilds,OLB/DE,Virginia Tech
The Porter signing is already looking bad for the Cards, they overpaid for him and he got a DUI and assualted an officer. They're gonna have to have another OLB.
59. Cowboys: Jon Asamoah,OG,Illinois
The Cowboys love jumbo lineman, especially on the interior. Some think if Iupati falls to him he will be the pick in the 1st, but I don't see him lasting that long.
60. Seahawks: Reshad Jones,FS,Georgia
The Seahawks need help everywhere on defense. Jones is a good player that will be able to help in the run game and the pass game.
61. Jets: Morgan Burnett,FS,Georgia Tech
The Jets got rid of Rhodes which was smart, Rhodes thinks they should have schemed their entire D around his skills. Burnett will be an upgrade over what Rhodes was.
62. Vikings: Jamar Chaney,ILB,Mississippi State
Chaney has had excellent workouts this off season and played himself up to the number 2 ILB spot after Spikes had a horrible 40 time.
63. Colts: Jermaine Cunningham,DE,Florida
The Colts need some depth at DE, when Freeney went out in the Super Bowl they generated no pass rush. Plus Mathis' contract runs out after this year and this will give Polian some leverage in negotiations.
64. Saints: Daryl Washington,OLB,TCU
The Saints need to retool their LB corps. They lost Fujita and weren't really that strong to begin with. Some early round picks on D could have the Saints in the Super Bowl again.
3rd Round
65. Rams: Geno Atkins,DT,Georgia
Steve Spagnola loves D lineman that are quick and get after the QB. He has good reason, his D line in New York won him a Super Bowl.
66. Lions: Chad Jones,SS,LSU
The Lions pass defense and run defense was atrocious last season. They need help all over the secondary and Burnett is a great talent to land in the 3rd round that will help with both the run and pass.
67. Buccaneers: Rob Gronkowski,TE,Arizona
I think his back issues will cause him to fall to the 3rd round. The Bucs have a young QB and TE's are young QB's best friends.
68. Chiefs: Jared Veldheer,OT,UMass
Taking Eric Berry in the 1st pays off as Pioli still lands a quality offensive tackle in the top of the third. Veldheer is excellent value at 68, which Pioli will like.
69. Raiders: Aaron Hernandez,TE,Florida
This guy is a major receiving weapon. Even with Miller on their roster Al Davis will like how this guy moves for how big he is.
70. Eagles: Perrish Cox,CB,Oklahoma State
Neither of the Eagles starting corners have shown up for off season workouts and there's been rumors that one or both of them may be traded.
71. Browns: Colt McCoy,QB,Texas
The Browns are very high on McCoy and he'd fit well in their west coast offense. He doesn't need to have a big arm for that system and he's got good accuracy.
72. Bills: Brandon Spikes,ILB,Florida
The Bills need some presence inside to stop the run. They were very good against the pass and if they can improve their run D they could be very good overall on defense.
73. Dolphins: Major Wright,FS,Florida
The Dolphins tried to sign Ryan Clark this offseason. They obviously need an upgrade at Safety, Wright has good upside but is raw. Had he stayed in school he may have been a 1st-2nd rounder.
74. Jaguars: Tim Tebow,QB,Florida
I doubt Tebow will last this long, allthough he should be a 3rd rounder. The Jags will trade up to get him, they can't finish this draft without getting Tebow.
75. Bears: John Jerry,OG,Ole Miss
The Bears finally get to pick, and last year their run blocking was terrible. Forte had nowhere to go and they just paid alot of money for Taylor. Someone's gonna have to open some holes for them and Jerry is a mauler in the run game.
76. Giants: Mike Neal,DT,Purdue
The Giants love loading up on defensive lineman, especially ones with good length that have the ability to get after the QB.
77. Titans: Corey Wooten,DE,Northwestern
The Titans will take another pass rusher, although Wooten will be situational. Their pass D was terrible last year, but that was due to QB's having all day to throw.
78. Panthers: Mardy Gilyard,WR,Cincinnati
Steve Smith recently said he'd love for the team to bring in another WR across from him. Gilyard will give them a decent option and will bolster their return game.
79. 49ers: Amari Spievey,CB,Iowa
The Niners continue to upgrade their secondary, with so many good corners in this draft Spievey falls to the 3rd and is a steal for SF.
80. Broncos: Dexter McCluster,WR/RB,Ole Miss
McDaniels will love this guy, he is versatile playing both receiver and running back and is very explosive. A creative offensive guy like McDaniels will get good use out of McCluster.
81. Texans: Anthony McCoy,TE,USC
With Owen Daniels coming off an ACL injury the Texans will add some depth at TE. If Daniels is 100 %, McCoy is a good blocker and can be used as such.
82. Steelers: Torell Troup,DT,Central Florida
Casey Hampton is on the north side of 30 and is starting to decline somewhat. The Steelers like to have their draft picks develop a couple years before starting so Troup could be Hampton's replacement in a couple years.
83. Falcons: Darrell Stuckey,FS,Kansas
Some think the Falcons will take a Safety in the 1st. I doubt it I think they need to upgrade their pass rush first. But their pass D needs upgraded and with their 1st two picks they take players to defend the pass.
84. Bengals: Carlton Mitchell,WR,South Florida
I have Mitchell as the 7th WR, but NFL teams may have Gilyard and McCluster ahead of him still due to him being so raw. I like his size and speed, and the more tape I watch of this guy the more I want the Bengals to land him. I believe he could end up being one of the top 5 WR's out of this draft and the Bengals seem to do better with 2nd and 3rd round WR's as opposed to taking them in the 1st.
85. Browns: Andre Roberts,WR,The Citadel
The Browns may have the worst group of receivers in the NFL. Some new blood definitely has to be brought in, but with so many needs this is the earliest I see it happening.
86. Packers: Javier Arenas,CB,Alabama
Like I said earlier the Pack has 2 CB's over 30 and I can see them taking 2 in this draft and letting them learn under their 2 all pros. Arenas will also add a boost to their return game.
87. Eagles: Mike Johnson,OG,Alabama
Andy Reid loves his jumbo offensive lineman. The Eagles realize the Andrews brothers experiment didn't work out, Reid skips over Petrus for the bigger Johnson.
88. Cardinals: Sean Lee,ILB,Penn State
After the Cards grab their OLB, they get someone to replace Dansby on the inside. Lee is good value at the end of the 3rd, some people have him as the 2nd ILB.
89. Cardinals: John Skelton,QB,Deleware
I think the Cards hope they can catch lightening in a bottle at QB and have Skelton be comparible to Flacco. Both have big arms and come from Deleware. I don't think Wisenhunt is happy with Anderson or Leinert at QB.
90. Cowboys: Dominique Franks,CB,Oklahoma
Dallas needs to add some depth and get younger at corner. Newman is 32 and is starting to decline.
91. Chargers: Jerome Murphy,CB,South Florida
The Chargers fill a huge need after trading Cromartie to the Jets. Even with Cason on the roster they could use another corner.
92. Browns: Toby Gerhart,RB,Stanford
This is a little bit of a reach but the Browns are in need of a big back to complement Harrison in the backfield. Gerhart will be a good fit in the smashmouth AFC North.
93. Vikings: Joe McKnight,RB,USC
With Chester Taylor leaving via free agency, a backup and change of pace back is needed in Minnesota. McKnight is talented and good value late in the 3rd.
94. Colts: Donovan Warren,CB,Michigan
The Colts are excellent at grabbing mid round corners and developing them into very good corners. Teams can never have too many good corners and the Colts use these picks as leverage in negotiations to keep their already developed players.
95. Saints: Austen Lane,DE,Murray State
With Charles Grant gone the Saints will be looking to add a DE end in the draft. Lane is good at rushing the passer and could end up being a pro bowler, especially in NO where they will have a lead very often.
96. Bengals: Mitch Petrus,OG,Arkansas
Gotta love these comp picks! Regardless if the Bengals get Bobbie Williams signed a Guard should be drafted, Williams is 34. That's the good thing about Guard is good ones are available in the 3rd and 4th. Petrus was an all SEC player and the Bengals love their SEC offensive lineman. Petrus plays through the whistle on every play and is one of the best if not the best pulling Guard in this draft. He needs work on his pass protection, it's not awful just a bit inconsistent.
97. Titans: Taylor Price,WR,Ohio
The Titans need a speedy vertical threat to play on the other side of Britt. Price would be a good slot player to start his rookie season.
98. Falcons: Jacoby Ford,WR,Clemson
The Falcons need a 3rd option at WR. Ford ran a 4.28 at the combine which is one of the top 5 forty times since 2000. He'd be a good fit in the slot, and could also add a playmaker to their return game.
