Taking Dez Bryant
There's been alot of talk of Dez Bryant in Bengal Nation. There is a real chance a projected top 10 pick falls all the way into the 20's and will be available when the Bengals are on the clock. This could be ideal if someone wants him and the Bengals have an opportunity to trade back. But what if the Bengals do select Bryant?
If Bryant comes in here and isn't a problem in the locker room and performs up to expectations, the Bengals will be legitimate Super Bowl contenders. That has a nice ring to it. It would give us a trio of WR's that could be better than we had in 2005, and I think would be better. Now if they get anywhere near the production we had on offense in 05 and match that with a number 4 ranked defense that is returning all it's starters and has a key player in Maualuga that has a year of experience under his belt. Those possibilities make that pick seem exciting.
Now there's a chance Bryant comes in here and becomes a big problem in the locker room or gets himself suspended. Although I think with the team and leaders the Bengals currently have they could sit him down and tell him how it has to be to play here. The off the field stuff Bryant currently has against him none of it is really that bad. But there's just a bunch of dumb stuff and that makes you question whether he's smart enough to even play in an NFL system.
Also there's the Brat factor. Is it even worth it to give Brat a 1st round pick when he's the most unimaginative, unoriginal, coordinator in the NFL. Well it could give the Bengals the weapons that are good enough to overcome the inept Bratkowski, in 05 that team succeeded despite Brat not because of him. They were still predictable as can be, but were so loaded it didn't matter and they couldn't be stopped. So that could be an argument for taking Bryant. The only way the offense is gonna be any good is to load up on talent enough to overcome Brat's ineptness.
Overall I have Earl Thomas and Brandon Graham higher than Dez on my 1st round rankings, but there's a good chance both could be gone. Alot of mocks have Graham gone by 19th to Atlanta and Earl Thomas is top 10 on most big boards and has Jacksonville taking him. Even if the Jags don't take him, Miami has Safety needs and the other teams could see his value as too good to pass on. So in 17 days we will find out, and if Dez Bryant is a Cincinnati Bengal oh at around 10 o clock or so, look for this to be a very exciting season where our offense could very well match the production of the defense. If that happens look for a deep run into the playoffs.
