2011 Mock Draft
Updated May 1st, 2010
The draft order is determined by this site's current power rankings.
1. Buffalo Bills: Jake Locker,QB,Washington
The Bills could have taken a QB in the 2010 draft. Since they didn't they will once again have a terrible season because they drafted a RB first with no one on the line to block for him. If they want to be serious about competing they need a QB the 2 they currently have won't cut it.
2. Cleveland Browns: Julio Jones,WR,Alabama
Cleveland had a decent draft this year and look to be on their way to turning things around. That being said they drafted for the future, which is fine, but Cleveland fans be prepared for another horrendous season. Jones will give new QB Colt McCoy a true #1 WR and Taylor Price is a good 2nd WR.
3. St. Louis Rams: AJ Green,WR,Georgia
The Rams didn't take a WR until the 4th round after selecting Sam Bradford this year. I thought they should have taken a WR in the 2nd. Bradford has no legitimate number 1 weapons and will need a go to guy, AJ Green will be a legit number 1 WR.
4. Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Peterson,CB,LSU
Peterson has top 5 talent and could give Pioli a reason to go defensive back in the top 5 two years in a row. With all the first round talent up front and now in the secondary the Chiefs could be looking at a top 5 defense within a couple years, if not sooner.
5. Denver Broncos: Marcell Dareus,DE,Alabama
Dareus will be too much value to pass at this point as of now he's the top rated player on this site. Denver fell apart the 2nd half of last season and did nothing in this year's draft to give them immediate help. By the time the players drafted develop, Josh McDaniels will be fired. He's basically drafted for a few years down the road for another coach.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Cameron Heyward,DT/DE,Ohio State
The Bucs had a good plan going into this years draft taking 2 very good DT's in the first 2 rounds. They still need help on the edge however and Heyward can give them an every down player that can stuff the run as well as rush the passer.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Andrew Luck,QB,Stanford
I thought the Jags should have traded back this year and taken Tim Tebow. That would've fixed their problem of not selling tickets, but it wouldn't have fixed their QB issues. Andrew Luck will, a big armed QB with accuracy and smarts has all the makings to be an elite NFL QB.
8. New England Patriots: Gabe Carimi,OT,Wisconsin
This pick is from the Raiders for Richard Seymour. They could go DE here but I think they have Seymour's replacement in Jermaine Cunningham. NE's line is aging and thanks to the Raiders, Tom Brady is going to get the top OT in this draft.
9. Detroit Lions: Joseph Barksdale,OT,LSU
The Lions had a very good draft this year and I expect their wins total to atleast double if not more next year. Schwartz has done a great job as he took over a mess and I think after next season the Lions will be playoff contenders. Especially if they land a top OT for Stafford.
10. Seattle Seahawks: Adrian Clayborn,DE,Iowa
The Seahawks also had a very good draft, however I think they also had a long way to go. They have excellent LB's and a good secondary, a good pass rusher could give them a complete defense.
11. Arizona Cardinals: Prince Amukamara,CB,Nebraska
A ton of corners went in the 1st round this year, because teams know this league is becoming a pass happy league and in order to win it all you need to have 3 good CB's. Amukamara would give them 2 and they'd still need to add another.
12. Chicago Bears: Mike Pouncey,OC/OG,Florida
Even with all the free agent additions I think the Bears are going to struggle. They really didn't do much to fix their weakest spot the interior offensive line. Bringing Chester Taylor in won't do any good if he doesn't have any blocking. Pouncey is a punishing interior lineman as is his brother.
13. New York Giants: Anthony Castanzo,OT,Boston College
The Giants are a team that likes to run the ball to control the clock. Their O line is aging though and Castanzo could at minimum be for the future but would likely start. He is a well rounded OT that can run block as well as pass block.
14. Pittsburgh Steelers: Robert Quinn,DE,North Carolina
It's gonna be nice to see the Steelers picking this high next year. All 3 of their starting DE's are over 30 years old. While they do have Hood they will need someone at DE on the other side. Quinn may have to put on some weight to play DE in a 3-4.
15. Atlanta Falcons: DeAndre McDaniel,SS,Clemson
It'd be nice if McDaniel fell to the Bengals, but if they pick anywhere in the 20's it won't happen. McDaniel will be too much value here to pass on. Especially at a position where Atlanta could use the help.
16. Washington Redskins: Mark Ingram,RB,Alabama
This year the Redskins are going with the AARP club at RB. I think they'll realize that doesn't work in the NFL, Shanahan loves his RB's and will be very impressed with Ingram's power style running.
17. Philadelphia Eagles: Bruce Carter,OLB,North Carolina
Carter will be a major upgrade to who the Eagles currently have at LB. The reason they won't be attending the playoffs next season is because they have zero good outside LB's. Carter is great value at this point.
18. Tennessee Titans: Ras-I Dowling,CB,Virginia
The Titans needed help against the pass and I think they made the right move by taking the pass rusher first. But they failed to come back and get a viable CB even though some good ones were still available in the 3rd. Next year they'll take one in the 1st as CB will be loaded.
19. New England Patriots: Ryan Williams,RB,Virginia Tech
One of these years the Pats are going to have to take an early round RB. They've needed on for atleast the last 3 years. Williams is that big back that can be your bell cow if you need him to be. Faulk is 34 years old which is ancient for a RB and they aren't sold on Maroney at all.
20. Carolina Panthers: Marvin Austin,DT,North Carolina
What a suprise another defender from North Carolina coming off the board in the 1st. Their defense is loaded with 1st round picks. Austin will get to stay in state as the Panthers need help up front at both DE and DT. Austin is the best player available at this point and also fits a need.
21. Miami Dolphins: Jerrell Powe,DT,Ole Miss
The Dolphins currently have a NT that is in his mid 30's. Powe is the best true NT in next year's draft and if he's available should be an easy pick for Miami. With the additions of Dansby,Odrick and Misi a true NT will give them an excellent front 7.
22. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Harris,CB,Miami
The Niners needed help in their secondary and took Taylor Mays. While he'll be good against the run they are going to need some guys that can cover. I expect atleast 4 CB's to come off the board in the 1st next year that's how good the CB class will be again.
23. Houston Texans: Janoris Jenkins,CB,Florida
The Texans will pull a Bengals and take a corner in the 1st in back to back drafts. After they lost Deunta Robinson they had no viable starters at the position. They drafted Kareem Jackson and will need to add one more to be capable of defending Payton Manning and the Colts.
24. Minnesota Vikings: Noel Divine,RB,West Virginia
The Vikings have overworked AP in his first few seasons. They realized that and took Toby Gerhart in the 2nd round this year. Both are big bruising backs that Noel Divine will be a good compliment to. The Vikings want to be a running team and if Favre doesn't return will have to.
25. Baltimore Ravens: Micheal Floyd,WR,Notre Dame
The Ravens were all set to take Dez Bryant this year until Dallas jumped in front of them and grabbed him. (Thank God!) Floyd is a very good WR and Derrick Mason can't play forever. Also Boldin is no spring chicken.
26. Green Bay Packers: Greg Reid,CB,Florida State
I thought the Packers would take an early CB in this year's draft for sure. They didn't and now have 2 corners over 30 with one coming off an ACL injury. They'll almost certainly have to dip into this talent pool of CB's next year's draft.
27. Jonathon Baldwin,WR,Pittsburgh
This is a tough choice for the Bengals. They may need a Safety and if so there's one left that has a borderline 1st round grade. However I think they're gonna be suprised by Jeromy Miles. Now with Chad on a 1 year club option they could start looking for their future number 1 WR. Baldwin is a 6-5 WR with good speed and build. He's the best player left on the board which is why I went with him over Deunta Williams the top rated FS left. I still the the Bengals will hang onto Chad a couple more years but Baldwin will atleast add competition to the number 2 spot with Bryant and Bricoe. And will give them flexibility to go with 4 WR sets. There's no guarantee Bryant is going to pan out even if he has a good year this year as he's been inconsistent thru his career. Baldwin is just too talented with too much size to pass at this point and WR will be loaded for Carson Palmer. That along with a big time TE and a good running game and their offense will be unstoppable.
28. San Diego Chargers: Terrance Tolliver,WR,LSU
The Chargers GM loves to draft skill positions in the first round. Tolliver is another big tall talented WR that can be a future number 1 WR. Floyd and Jackson are both getting up there in age.
29. Dallas Cowboys: Deunta Williams,FS,North Carolina
Another North Carolina defender! Williams is a FS that can cover man to man and has decent ability to play the run as a FS. The Cowboys are aging in their secondary and need to add some youth and depth.
30. Indianapolis Colts: Travis Lewis,OLB,Oklahoma
The Colts opted to go with their depth at DE which I expected in this year's draft. I think they need an upgrade at SAM and Will LB and Lewis can give them that SAM upgrade with some cover ability.
31. New Orleans Saints: Greg Romeus,DE,Pittsburgh
Romeus may end up being a way higher pick than this depending on what he does at Pitt this season. If he doesn't raise his stock significantly he'll be a good pickup this late. He can provide that pass rush the Saints look for out of their front 4.
32. New York Jets: Allen Bailey,DE,Miami
The Jets, like the Steelers, are also getting old on their 3 man D line. Bailey with some added weight can be an excellent 3-4 end that is disruptive against the run and can take up double teams against the pass allowing those edge rushers to come free.
