PostHeaderIcon 2011 Mock Draft

Update 5-17-10 The draft order is based on my own power rankings which can be found on this site.

1. Buffalo Bills- Jake Locker, QB, Washington

Many thought the Bills would take Jimmy Clausen with the 9th overall pick in this year's draft. When he was there on their 2nd round pick I thought they'd take him for sure. I guess they weren't sold on him, however with no upgrade at QB they could easily be picking 1st next year.

2. Cleveland Browns- Marcell Dareus, DE, Alabama

Mike Holmgren has never really put a high priority at WR. He won a Super Bowl with average WR's in Green Bay. Dareus could very well be the best rated player in next year's draft and he play's a position of higher value in a 3-4. Dareus is a beast and will give them flexibility to switch to a 4-3 if they choose.

3. St. Louis Rams- Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

For now Jones is my top rated WR based on potential. The Rams have to get Sam Bradford some weapons and fortunately for him this draft is top heavy at WR. Jones would be a good compliment as a number 1 WR with Gilyard at number 2 or slot.

4. Kansas City Chiefs- AJ Green, WR, Georgia

Teams in the NFL build to try to win their division. Right now in the Chiefs division they need to be able to beat the Chargers. To do that they're going to have to be able to put up some points. That means more weapons for Matt Cassell. If he doesn't get it done by the end of the 2011 season they'll likely be looking for a new QB.

5. Denver Broncos- Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Teams realize in the NFL you can never have too many good defensive backs. The Broncos have 2 pretty good corners, but both are on the wrong side of 30. In a pass happy NFL teams are taking CB's in the 1st round more and more.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Cameron Heyward, DT/DE, Ohio State

Obviously the Bucs new philosophy is to stack up on defensive lineman, taking 2 DT's with their first 2 picks. I like the Bucs draft, however they need upgrades at DE, that would be a perfect fit for Heyward at DE. With 2 early round pass rushers drafted this year their D line could become a major force for years to come. Heyward can also play the run as well as he rushes the passer.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars- Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

After failing to get Tim Tebow this draft, the Jags will once again fail to sell out games. Soon they'll be called the LA Jaguars and Luck playing in California will be right at home. This will be good value as Luck could very well be the top overall pick next year.

8. New England Patriots- Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

The Patriots still need to find a replacement for Richard Seymour. There was a notable difference in their defense last season, especially in the playoff game against Baltimore who ran all over them. It almost seems unfair NE gets two 1st round picks next year.

9. Detroit Lions- Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin

I think the Lions are a couple good lineman away from having a very good offense. Usually the top OT goes earlier than 9, as it's such a high value position, but with so much talent everywhere else the 1st OT could fall this far or out of the top 10 altogether.

10. Seattle Seahawks- Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

The Seahawks had an excellent draft this year, but I don't think they will be a playoff team quite yet even with all the moves they've made. They are in need of upgrades at DE, and fortunately for them there's a stockpile of good D lineman in this draft.

11. Arizona Cardinals- Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

It looks like the NFC West is turning into a run the ball first division with SF,Seattle, and St. Louis all now having good RB's. The Cards got Joey Porter, but he can't be the answer long term. Carter is the top LB in this draft and could be a defensive rookie of the year candidate next year.

12. Chicago Bears- DeAndre McDaniel, SS, Clemson

The Bears have to be happy to have a 1st round pick finally. They also have two average Safeties who are threatening to hold out and acting like they are all-pros. McDaniel has the potential to be as good as Troy Polamalu and would be an upgrade and allow them to get rid of atleast one of their arrogant Safeties.

13. New York Giants- Joseph Barksdale, OT, LSU

This year the Giants adressed the defensive line, I think next year they will adress the line on the other side of the ball. They are getting old on the O line and Coughlin likes to start up front which is a good philosophy.

14. Pittsburgh Steelers- Jerrell Powe, DT, Ole Miss

It'll be nice if the Steelers are picking this early or even earlier. Powe is the best true NT in this draft class and will provide them with depth and a replacement for the aging Casey Hampton. This is how the Steelers like to draft, for players to come in as backups and learn for atleast a year.

15. Atlanta Falcons- Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

The Falcons acquired Dunta Robinson this offseason. However with the Saints in their division they're going to need atleast 3 good corners. Like I said teams draft for value and for players who can help them beat division opponents and to win this division you have to beat the Saints.

16. Washington Redskins- Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

The Redskins currently have 3 RB's who are past their prime and have taken beatings throughout their careers. In the Redskins glory days they had big powerful RB's. The older Redskins fans will love this pick.

17. Philadelphia Eagles- Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

Andy Reid loves his offensive lineman in the early rounds. After adressing the defense with their first 3 picks this year Reid will be having O line withdrawls and will have to get one. Plus the Andrews experiment was a disaster.

18. Tennessee Titans- Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia

I thought the Titans could go CB in the 1st round this year. I think they made the right choice though with Derrick Morgan sitting there. However, now they are in need of an upgrade across from Cortland Finnegan and they still have to face Payton Manning twice a year.

19. New England Patriots- Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech

Belichick may be skeptical to take a RB in the 1st round after it blew up in his face with Maroney. However I doubt Moss is there after this season, and Faulk is too old to play. I think the Pats will get back to running the ball more and Williams would be a good start to that.

20. Carolina Panthers- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami

Like I said we're going to start seeing a premium on CB's and more and more will start being taken in the 1st round. The Panthers are getting old at the position and they have to play against Drew Brees twice a year.

21. Miami Dolphins- Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina

Bill Parcells likes to draft for value and if Austin is available here he'll likely be the top player available on the board at a position Parcells views as high value.

22. San Francisco 49ers- Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida

I thought the Niners could go first round CB this year, but I like what they did with taking 2 offensive linemen. However that still leaves them needing upgrade at the CB position. Even though the West is going to likely be a running division to advance in the playoffs they'll need to be able to defend the pass.

23. Houston Texans- Mike Pouncey, OG/OC, Florida

The Texans have to dethrone the Colts to win their division, which is a tough task with Payton Manning at QB. They have an explosive offense but need some road graders up front to help them become more balanced on offense. The Saints showed the best way to beat the Colts is to keep the ball away from them.

24. Minnesota Vikings- Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh

The Vikings like to get after the QB using just their front 4. Jared Allen is a beast and the addition of someone with the potential of Romeus would make them almost impossible to block coming off both edges for an entire game.

25. Baltimore Ravens- Micheal Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

The Ravens likely were hoping Dez Bryant was going to land in their lap, he went one pick before them and they didn't take Thomas. Derrick Mason could retire after this season and they need someone across from Boldin.

26. Green Bay Packers- Greg Reid, CB, Florida State

The Packers needed to take some corners in this year's draft. They have 2 CB's over 30 with one of them coming off an ACL injury, it's time to get some youth at the position for depth and the future.

27. Cincinnati Bengals- Deunta Williams, FS, North Carolina

The Bengals may as well cash in on all those all-americans on the Tar Heel defense. This is the position that is in biggest need of an upgrade on the Bengals, as of now. Jonathon Baldwin is rated higher and could be an option here, but I think they franchise Chad after next year and if Bryant pans out WR will be crowded, especially with the 2 draft picks there this year. Williams is a good cover guy, with very good size and speed. He could be an immediate starter at FS and Crocker could move over to SS and compete with Roy Williams for the starting spot. This would turn Safety into a very deep position for the Bengals.

28. San Diego Chargers- Jonathon Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

San Diego likes their big tall receivers and Baldwin is 6-5 and would be a lethal combo with Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd. The Chargers are throwing more and more and if Baldwin is there he could very well be a Charger next year.

29. Dallas Cowboys- Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA

Many people had the Cowboys slated to take a Safety within the first 2 rounds in this year's draft. Moore would be an upgrade over a weak backside of the secondary and give them a ball hawk to play centerfield.

30. Indianapolis Colts- Clint Boling, OT, Georgia

As long as Payton Manning is playing the Colts should be looking to upgrade his protection. When he has time to throw defense's don't have a chance.

31. New Orleans Saints- Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

The Saints let Fujita walk in free agency which was probably a good move as he is old and mediocre anyway. Travis Lewis could end up being the top LB out of this class.

32. New York Jets- Allen Bailey, DE, Miami

The Jets had the top defense in the league last year and could again this year. But they need some youth and depth on the defensive line where they are getting old. Rex Ryan loves to have big talented lineman to take up blockers and let his LB's roam freely.

2nd Round

33. Bills- Terrance Tolliver, WR, LSU

If the Bills get their franchise QB then they have to get him some weapons. Outside of Lee Evans, the Bills don't have any outside threats. CJ Spiller can receive out of the backfield, but they need more.

34. Browns- Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M

I think the Browns have some pieces in place to have a good defense, especially if they land Dareus. Even with the acquisition of Fujita they need someone at OLB. In the AFC North defense wins.

35. Rams- Noel Divine, RB, West Virginia

Stephen Jackson is a beast, but the Rams need to get someone to take some of the load off his back. Divine is fast and can catch, if they keep adding early round weapons to go with Bradford the greatest show on turf could be back.

36. Chiefs- Curtis Brown, CB, Texas

The Chiefs have a D line full of 1st rounders and now have Eric Berry and Javier Arenas. If they could land Brown here they could be on the way to a top 5 defense.

37. Broncos- Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame

The Broncos have Tim Tebow now and part of what made him successful at Florida was he had a good reliable TE. Rudolph can block as well as catch the ball.

38. Buccaneers- Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

The Bucs play in the same division as the Saints. They need as many good CB's as they can possibly get.

39. Jaguars- Jason Pinkston, OT, Pittsburgh

I think if you take a 1st round QB you should always look at getting upgrades and depth on the O line. The only rookie QB's that have success have great offensive lines.

40. Raiders- Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

The Raiders would love to grab Mallett in the 2nd round. He wouldn't have the pressure of a 1st round pick, and with Jason Campbell in Oakland he wouldn't have to start immediately.

41. Lions- DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson

Bowers could easily go in the 1st round next year. He and Suh on the same line would be a good start to building a dominant line. If I was a Lions fan I'd be excited if they land these players, their future would look very bright.

42. Seahawks- Evan Royster, RB, Penn State

Seattle brought in Lendale White, but Pete Carroll likes to have a stable of backs. Royster would likely be an upgrade over White and would be less likely to show up out of shape.

43. Cardinals- Sam Acho, DE, Texas

The Cardinals got a steal this year with Dan Williams at the bottom of the 1st. They need to upgrade and add depth to the 2 end spots to free up those LB's.

44. Bears- Rodney Hudson, OG, Florida State

The Bears interior line was terrible last season. Even though they added Chester Taylor it won't matter if their blocking isn't any better. They didn't have the picks to adress it in this year's draft.

45. Giants- Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

The Giants lost their best LB in Antonio Pierce, he was on the inside but now they need upgrades at all 3 LB spots. Brown can cover well and rush the passer as well as play the run.

46. Steelers- Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State

Willie Parker is gone in Pittsburgh, they have Mendenhall but having atleast two good backs is a must due to the pounding they take. Really it's ideal to have three capable backs.

47. Falcons- Jarvis Jenkins, DT, Clemson

The Falcons need some people on the interior of the line to bring some pressure up the middle of the pocket and not let Drew Brees sit back and pick them apart. Jenkins would likely be great value at this point.

48. Redskins- Jurrell Casey, DT, USC

I think Shanahan really wants to get rid of Haynesworth and will need someone capable to replace him. Next year's DT class is loaded just as this year's was.

49. Eagles- Rashad Carmicheal, CB, Virginia Tech

The Eagles sent Sheldon Brown to the Browns and need to add some players at corner next year if they want to be able to stop the Cowboys passing attack. They could also take a QB for when the fans run Kolb out of town.

50. Titans- Quan Sturdivant, MLB, North Carolina

The Titans haven't had that big presence in the middle since Keith Bulluck was in his prime. They need to get some of that toughness back inside.

51. Patriots- Mark Herzlich, OLB, Boston College

This would be a great story if it happened. Cancer survivor stays in Boston to play football. This could line up perfectly as he fills a need and could likely be the best player available if he lasts this long.

52. Panthers- DeVier Posey, WR, Ohio State

Posey kind of reminds me of Steve Smith of the Panthers. Smith said he wanted another WR brought in and now that they have 2 young QB's they need to find some weapons.

53. Dolphins- DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma

The Dolphins have been shopping Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams is getting up there in age. You'd think an early round RB is in the Dolphins future.

54. 49ers- Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma

The Niners could use another receiving threat across from Micheal Crabtree. They have Vernon Davis at TE, but Crabtree is still going to see constant double teams.

55. Texans- Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

As long as Payton Manning is still playing the Texans should be looking at taking players in the secondary and pass rushers every year.

56. Vikings- Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State

This could very well be Brett Favre's last season, he can't play forever, can he? I don't think the Vikings are sold on Rosenfels or Jackson.

57. Ravens- Jeremy Beal, DE, Oklahoma

Ozzie Newsome likes to get value out of his picks and Jeremy Beal would likely be the BPA if he's available at this spot.

58. Packers- Stephen Wisniewski, OC/OG, Penn State

The Packers got a steal in Bryan Bulaga in this year's draft. However they need to add more than just him if they don't want to get Rodgers killed.

59. Bengals- Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State

The last time the Bengals passed on a RB from Oregon State it turned around and bit them in the butt (Stephen Jackson). Rodgers is short at 5-7, but is stocky like Jones-Drew. To discount him because of his height would be a mistake, I think RB's that are shorter have an advantage. Lower center of gravity and they can hide behind those big offensive lineman. Barry Sanders was only 5-8 I believe. Benson is on the last year of his contract, he could be too expensive to resign and in my opinion RB is the easiest position to replace in the NFL. Even if they get Benson back, which I hope they do, they need a back that can handle a full workload to back him up. Or atleast split carries with Bernard Scott.

60. Chargers- Kendrick Ellis, DT, Hampton

The Chargers need a true NT, the one they had was old and they let him walk to a division rival. Hampton is the 2nd rated NT in next year's draft.

61. Cowboys- Marcus Cannon, OT, TCU

The Cowboys cut Flozell Adams who was a franchise tackle for them for many years. They think they have a suitable replacement in house, but will atleast need to add depth at the position.

62. Colts- Pat Devlin, QB, Deleware

A big, strong armed QB that is being compared to Joe Flacco. I know if I were running the Colts I'd want a QB for the future to have as many years possible learning under Manning.

63. Saints- Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska

We'll find out if Crick is good or just benefited from having Suh playing next to him. I think he's a good player and the Saints need someone capable to line up next to Sedrick Ellis.

64. Jets- Chris Culliver, FS, South Carolina

The Jets opted to go free agency to replace the cocky Kerry Rhodes. They still could use another capable body there to provide competition and depth.
