Biggest Asset in the NFL
That's right the Cincinnati Bengals have the biggest asset in the entire NFL. His name is Mike Zimmer and here's why he's the biggest asset. He's able to take players that have excellent talent, but questions about their motor and motivate them into fulfilling that talent. Roy Williams struggled in Dallas after Zimmer left, but while Zimmer was there he was a pro bowl Safety. The same with Tank Johnson, during his career his most productive years have been when Zimmer was his coach. The Bengals two pro bowl CB's (should have been anyway) were always good, but became elite shut down corners once Zimmer arrived on the scene. A defense that struggled for years suddenly became a top 5 unit under Zimmer's watch. You get the idea.
This gave the Bengals the ability to draft Carlos Dunlap this year, once considered a top 10 pick he fell into the 2nd round. He still has the tools to be an all pro and most of Bengals nation is pretty confident Zimmer will get the best out of him, including myself. Last year MJ had motor questions and I didn't see one time when he was lagging around on the field last year. For the amount of playing time he received he had excellent production. Both of these players have bright futures ahead of them because they are coached by Mike Zimmer.
The Bengals are the only team in the league to have this luxury in my opinion. They are able to take highly talented guys on defense that have motor and work ethic questions in the 2nd round and later and turn them into all pro type players. If only our offensive coaches could develop players half as well. Pacman Jones is about to sign with the Bengals and I'm not worried one bit, Zimmer said I'm not going to let this kid screw up our chemistry on defense, and he won't. Zimmer is going to get Pacman playing like the number 6 overall pick again and with the addition of Ghee the Bengals are going to have the best group of CB's in the NFL in a pass happy league.
It's likely that after this season teams are going to be calling on him to be a head coach. I hope not, but if they do I'd like to see Marvin moved to a GM type of position and Zimmer named the head man here in Cincinnati. I have a feeling that's how the majority of die hard Bengals fans see it as well. Zimmer is one asset the Bengals can not afford to lose. He's the most important person in the Bengals organization, even over Marvin Lewis and Carson Palmer.
