2011 Mock Draft
Updated 5/19/2010
1. Buffalo Bills- Jake Locker,QB,Washington
The Bills passed twice on Jimmy Clausen, they have to do their fan base a favor and take a QB. Fitzpatrick,Edwards, and Brohm aren't the answer.
2. Cleveland Browns- Julio Jones,WR,Alabama
The Browns need a true number 1 WR. Massoquoi had a decent rookie season and could develop into a decent number 2, but Jones has the talent to be an all-pro WR.
3. St. Louis Rams- AJ Green,WR,Georgia
If the Rams are picking high next year they need to grab one of the highly touted receivers in next year's draft to give Sam Bradford a legit number 1 WR.
4. Kansas City Chiefs- Patrick Peterson,CB,LSU
The Chiefs took Eric Berry in this year's draft and if they add an elite CB like Peterson their defensive backfield could be stellar. That added with all those first round picks on the D line could lead to a dominate defense in the near future.
5. Denver Broncos- Jonathon Baldwin,WR,Pittsburgh
Demaryius Thomas could end up being a stud in a couple years, but something tells me Josh McDaniels will want multiple top notch receivers like he had in New England.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Cameron Heyward,DE,Ohio State
I love what the Bucs did in the draft this year, they should be set at DT for years to come and have two players that can bring pressure up the middle and force the QB out of the pocket. Now they need someone on the outside who can get to that QB out of the pocket.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars- Marcell Dareus,DT,Alabama
The Jags went DT in this year's 1st round, but Dareus will be too much value to pass on here. He's number 1 on the big board but if the draft falls like this he could slip due to team needs. However if he fell this far someone would likely trade up to grab him.
8. New England Patriots- Robert Quinn,DE,North Carolina
This is the pick the Pats got for Richard Seymour. They could spend it on someone who could replace his production and Quinn has the potential to do that.
9. Detroit Lions- Gabe Carimi,OT,Wisconsin
The Lions need that franchise LT to protect their franchise QB. If Stafford stays healthy this could be the last year the Lions pick in the top 10 for a while, they need to grab an elite Tackle while they still can.
10. Carolina Panthers- Greg Romeus,DE,Pittsburgh
The Panthers were unable to retain Julius Peppers, it's impossible to replace a player like that, but Romeus has the talent to be elite and come close.
11. Arizona Cardinals- Andrew Luck,QB,Stanford
If Matt Leinert doesn't get it done this year I'm betting the Cards will be taking a QB in the first round next year.
12. Chicago Bears- DeAndre McDaniel,SS,Clemson
The Bears currently have 2 average Safeties that are threatening to hold out for more money. McDaniel is a Safety that would be worth paying the big money.
13. New York Giants- Bruce Carter,OLB,North Carolina
After releasing Antonio Pierce the Giants have zero quality LB's. They should be able to land a couple good ones in a LB heavy draft class.
14. Pittsburgh Steelers- Mark Ingram,RB,Alabama
The Steelers have Jonathon Stewart, but he isn't on the same level as Ingram. Plus with the beating RB's take every team needs depth at the position.
15. Atlanta Falcons- Adrian Clayborn,DE,Iowa
Many thought the Falcons would take a DE in this year's draft. Anderson has been a bust and the Falcons need some people who can pressure the QB, especially with the Saints in their division.
16. Seattle Seahawks- Jurrell Casey,DT,USC
This pick would make too much sense if the cards fell like this. The Seahawks need some good interior lineman and Casey was recruited by Pete Carroll.
17. Philadelphia Eagles- Prince Amukamara,CB,Nebraska
Corners are becoming a hot commodity in the NFL and more and more will be taken in the 1st round every year. The Eagles sent Sheldon Brown to Cleveland and need to fill the hole in the secondary he left.
18. Tennessee Titans- Aaron Williams,CB,Texas
The Titans need a viable corner across from Finnegan. They could've taken one in the 1st this year, but made the right choice by not passing on Derrick Morgan.
19. Washington Redskins- Micheal Floyd,WR,Notre Dame
The Redskins acquired McNabb who has won with average WR's which is what Washington currently has. They need upgrades at all skill positions except TE.
20. New England Patriots- Joseph Barksdale,OT,LSU
As long as the Pats have Brady they should always be looking to upgrade on the line. With all of NE's lineman atleast 30 it's time to add some youth and depth to take over.
21. Miami Dolphins- Deunta Williams,FS,North Carolina
The Dolphins upgraded their CB's last year, but failed to get any Safeties in this year's draft. Williams is the best coverage Safety in this draft class.
22. San Francisco 49ers- Ras-I Dowling,CB,Virginia
The Niners could have gone corner in the 1st this year, but I like what they did taking 2 offensive lineman. Even though their division looks to be more smashmouth, if they want to advance in the playoffs they need some cover guys.
23. Houston Texans- Allen Bailey,DT/DE,Miami
If I'm the Texans GM, every year I'm looking for cover guys and people to get pressure on the QB. With Payton Manning on the schedule twice every year you can't have enough of either.
24. Minnesota Vikings- Mike Pouncey,OG/OC,Florida
The Vikings failed to adress a problem area with the interior offensive line. Their running game struggled because of inside blocking, if they didn't have Peterson it would have been non existant.
25. Baltimore Ravens- Von Miller,OLB,Texas A&M
Ozzie Newsome is a value guy and if Miller is available here he'd likely be the BPA. Rush LB's have good value as they can play special teams until they're ready to start.
26. Green Bay Packers- Ryan Williams,RB,Virginia Tech
Ryan Grant is a decent back, but he's had issues with injuries in the past. Williams could be a bell cow type back and would provide GB with depth at a position you have to have it.
27. Cincinnati Bengals- Rahim Moore,FS,UCLA
Every Bengals fan knows that they need a ball hawking, centerfielder, type of free safety. They didn't adress the position at all in this year's draft. Moore will provide that, he has good size and good speed for the position. If they are able to re-sign Joseph after this season and they land Moore or Deunta Williams in the draft they will have a complete secondary and one of the best in the NFL, if not the best.
28. San Diego Chargers- Jerrell Powe,DT,Ole Miss
The Chargers need a pure NT after they cut the only one they had and let him go to a division rival. Powe is the best pure NT in next year's draft.
29. Dallas Cowboys- Anthony Castanzo,OT,Boston College
The Cowboys cut Flozell Adams and said they feel confident in the replacement they currently have. I'm not sold, but at minimum they need to add depth.
30. Indianapolis Colts- Marvin Austin,DT,North Carolina
Austin has the talent to be a top 10 pick if he can play up to the level of his talent. The Colts have great DE's but need to get some players on the interior to go with them.
31. New Orleans Saints- Travis Lewis,OLB,Oklahoma
The Saints cut Fujita and he went to Cleveland. While he was a leader on the defense, his talent was mediocre. Lewis will be a huge upgrade.
32. New York Jets- Kyle Rudolph,TE,Notre Dame
Rudolph is the only TE in this weak TE class worth a 1st round pick. The Jets could use a TE that can block as well as catch with all the running they do.
2nd Round
33. Bills- Terrance Tolliver,WR,LSU
If the Bills finally take their franchise QB, they will need to get him some weapons. On the outside the only player they have is Lee Evans that can produce.
34. Browns- Ryan Mallett,QB,Arkansas
I don't think the Browns are real high on Colt McCoy as many times as they passed on him. Holmgren loves to bring in as many QB's to compete as possible.
35. Rams- Noel Divine,RB,West Virginia
Stephen Jackson is a beast, but St. Louis needs to get someone to take some of the load off of him. Divine is a good change of pace back with receiving ability.
36. Chiefs- Christian Ponder,QB,Florida State
If the Chiefs are picking this high again next year they could look for a replacement for Matt Cassell. The top of the 2nd is a good spot to get a QB as some 1st round talent could slip.
37. Broncos- Brandon Harris,CB,Miami
The Broncos have 2 good CB's but both are on the wrong side of 30 years old. Plus in today's NFL teams need as many CB's as they can get.
38. Buccaneers- Zach Brown,OLB,North Carolina
The Bucs still haven't found anyone to step into Derrick Brooks role. No one can replace him, but Brown would be a good option to play the position.
39. Jaguars- Nick Perry,DE,USC
Even though the Jags signed Aaron Kampman they need some more pass rushers. The Jags also could be the LA Jaguars very soon and Perry would be a hometown pick if that happens.
40. Raiders- Jack Crawford,DE,Penn State
The Raiders had a good draft this year upgrading players on their defense. However they need someone to line up across from Seymour to get after the QB.
41. Lions- Quan Sturdivant,ILB,North Carolina
Larry Foote went back to Pittsburgh to be a back up. The Lions need someone to bring some attitude to the middle of that defense.
42. Panthers- Janoris Jenkins,CB,Florida
The Panthers should be drafting with the goal of winning the division in mind. To do that they'll need to slow down the Saints passing attack.
43. Cardinals- Clint Boling,OT,Georgia
If the Cards take a first round QB next year, they should get someone to upgrade the RT position. They have a good LT and this pick would sure up both ends of the line.
44. Bears- Rodney Hudson,OG,Florida State
It won't matter if the Bears acquired Chester Taylor if their interior blocking doesn't get any better. Since they didn't have a pick til the 3rd round they weren't able to adress it this year.
45. Giants- Mark Herzlich,OLB,Boston College
The Giants could possibly go LB in the first 3 rounds in next year's draft if no one steps up at LB this year. They need O lineman as well but not nearly as much as LB's.
46. Steelers- DaQuan Bowers,DE,Clemson
The Steelers entire starting D line is on the plus side of 30. They struggled when Aaron Smith went down last season. Even though they took Hood last year they need more D lineman.
47. Falcons- Rashad Hall,FS,Clemson
The Falcons should be drafting with the same mindset as the Panthers and Bucs. That is guys that can bring pressure and guys that can cover. Hall can cover and is an excellent blitzing Safety.
48. Seahawks- Aldon Smith,DE,Missouri
The Seahawks need some guys that can get after the QB. They are loaded at LB and now on the back end with Earl Thomas. Tapp isn't the answer at the DE spot.
49. Eagles- Jason Pinkston,OT,Pittsburgh
Andy Reid is probably having withdrawls from not drafting an early round O lineman in a couple years. The Andrews experiment was a disaster, it's time for some fresh faces on the right side of the line.
50. Titans- Stefen Wisniewski,OC/OG,Penn State
The Titans have a center on their roster that's over 40 years old. He's likely a hall of famer, but this could be his last year in the NFL.
51. Redskins- Evan Royster,RB,Penn State
The Redskins have 3 washed up RB's on their roster competing for a starting job. Next year they need to take advantage of this good RB class and get some youth at the position.
52. Patriots- Akeem Ayers,OLB,UCLA
Ayers is a well rounded player who can help vs. the run and rush the passer. The Pats need some LB's they were run all over in the playoffs last year.
53. Dolphins- Daniel Thomas,RB,Kansas State
The Dolphins have been shopping Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams isn't getting any younger. Thomas is a big back that can come in and provide the same thing those 2 do for cheaper.
54. 49ers- DeVier Posey,WR,Ohio State
The Niners need some weapons on the outside other than Micheal Crabtree. Posey is versatile and can line up outside or in the slot.
55. Texans- Curtis Brown,CB,Texas
The Texans took a 1st round CB this year after losing Dunta Robinson. That gave them the one good CB back they had, they need some others to defend the Colts passing attack if they want to get over the hump.
56. Vikings- Jarvis Jenkins,DT,Clemson
The Williamses are both getting up there in age. Jenkins would provide another body to rotate in and could help out with the interior pass rush.
57. Ravens- Will Hill,FS,Florida
Ed Reed said he was contemplating retirement this offseason. I doubt he retires for atleast a few years, but why not get someone to come in and learn behind one of the best of all time at the position.
58. Packers- Nate Potter,OT,Boise State
Even though the Packers got a steal with Bulaga so late in the 1st round, the need to get some more linemen to keep Rodgers from having to scramble to buy time every play.
59. Bengals- Pat Devlin,QB,Delaware
The Bengals are in trouble if JT O'Sullivan has to play at all this year other than mop up duty. If you saw him against the Jets last year that was a joke. Devlin is alot like Joe Flacco, and not just because they're both from Delaware. Devlin has good size at 6-4, 220 lbs, and he also has a big arm. If the Bengals made this pick I'd be excited about the future of the QB position as Devlin could sit a few years and learn behind Carson Palmer before taking over the position. I think the odds for success are much greater for QB's if they sit and learn behind a pro-bowl QB for a few years, just look at Aaron Rodgers.
60. Chargers- Rashad Carmicheal,CB,Virginia Tech
The Chargers sent Cromartie to the Jets for too cheap in my opinion. Even though the still have 2 good CB's they should want to keep 3 good CB's on the roster at all times.
61. Cowboys- Chris Culliver,FS,South Carolina
The Cowboys like the Bengals needed a cover safety this year and were unable to draft one in the early rounds. Culliver could likely immediately start for Dallas.
62. Colts- Mark Barron,SS,Alabama
Bob Sanders has been injured pretty much the last 3 or 4 years and that's a shame because of how talented he was. It's time to bring someone else in for the Colts.
63. Saints- Colin McCarthy,OLB,Miami
The Saints need upgrades at both OLB spots. Even though they took one in the 1st round I could see them going back to that position. LB's can always contribute on special teams.
64. Jets- Adrian Robinson,OLB,Temple
Rex Ryan loves to blitz and will take as many rush LB's as he can get. Robinson has a ton of sacks in Division 1-AA, even though he plays there he's got the skill set to play in the NFL.
3rd Round
65. Bills- Don'ta Hightower,ILB,Alabama
The Bills have a decent defense, they are especially good against the pass. Hightower will bring some swagger up front and help stop the run.
66. Browns- Lance Kendricks,TE,Wisconsin
Even though the Browns signed Watson, he has never lived up to his potential even in a potent NE offense. I doubt he'll be the answer in Cleveland either.
67. Rams- Sam Acho,DE,Texas
Adam Carriker hasn't been a good fit in St. Louis, even with all the 1st round picks they've spent on the D line they haven't found anyone to play across from Chris Long.
68. Chiefs- Marcus Cannon,OT,TCU
Even though it's the 3rd round Cannon could be a player to take over at LT and allow Albert to move inside to Guard, a more natural fit for him.
69. Broncos- Derrick Wolfe,DT/DE,Cincinnati
Wolfe is a fit as a 4-3 tackle or a 3-4 end. He would be very good value at this point in the draft and the Broncos need some younger guys on defense, they fell apart at the end of last season.
70. Buccaneers- DeMarco Murray,RB,Oklahoma
The Bucs need another fresh face at RB. Cadillac hasn't been quite the same since his injury and Ward didn't perform well without a dominate O line like he had in New York.
71. Jaguars- Ryan Broyles,WR,Oklahoma
The Jags need another option at WR and need to start adding weapons for their 1st round QB they take when they move to LA.
72. Raiders- Lee Ziemba,OT,Auburn
If the Raiders ever want McFadden to live up to his potential they need to get some road graters to clear the way for him.
73. Lions- Jeremy Beal,DE,Oklahoma
Jim Schwartz is a former D line coach, and he now has Vanden Bosch and Suh so far. Another good pass rusher could turn the Lions D line into one of the best in the NFL.
74. Panthers- Austin Pettis,WR,Boise State
Steve Smith recently said he wants another WR to play across from him. The Panthers have 2 young QB's with good upside they need some weapons.
75. Cardinals- Wesley Saunders,TE,South Carolina
If the Cards draft a first round QB next year they should get him a safety valve. A TE is a rookie QB's best friend.
76. Bears- Quinton Carter,FS,Oklahoma
This would take care of the other Safety spot that is currently manned by a mediocre player that is threatening a hold out.
77. Giants- Chris Gallipo,ILB,USC
This would solidify the 3rd LB spot for NY and give them a major boost against the run, an area they struggled with last year.
78. Steelers- Cameron Chism,CB,Maryland
The Steelers weren't very good in the secondary last year. Even with McFadden returning I'm feeling confident as a Bengals fan that our WR's will beat their corners.
79. Falcons- Ronald Johnson,WR,USC
The Falcons need to get Roddy White some help on the outside, as much as I like Jenkins he's not producing like he should.
80. Seahawks- Jacquizz Rodgers,RB,Oregon State
Rodgers would be a good fit in Seattle, he's already coming from the Pacific Northwest, and Pete Carroll loves to have a stable of RB's. Rodgers could possibly win the starting job there now.
81. Eagles- Blake Gideon,FS,Texas
The Eagles sent Brian Dawkins to Denver and still haven't found their future starter to replace him. Gideon has the potential to play himself into the 1st round.
82. Titans- Roy Helu,RB,Nebraska
Helu is a big back that will give the Titans someone to spell Chris Johnson and pick up that 3rd and 1. Plus he won't show up to camp fat and out of shape.
83. Redskins- Jared Crick,DT,Nebraska
I don't think Shanahan likes Albert Haynesworth at all, and is trying to get him out of Washington.
84. Patriots- Ross Homan,OLB,Ohio State
Homan is the kind of LB you could put inside in a 3-4 or have him come off the edge. I think he'd be a good fit next to Mayo and they'd be a force against the run.
85. Dolphins- Bruce Miller,OLB,Central Florida
Bill Parcells loves to have rush LB's and will likely take one every year in the draft if the value is there.
86. 49ers- Brandon Saine,RB,Ohio State
Saine has good speed and can catch the ball out of the backfield. He'd be a good change of pace from Gore and Coffee, and a 3rd down back.
87. Texans- Nigel Bradham,OLB,Florida State
The Texans are going to need depth at LB for when Cushing gets suspended yearly for taking steroids. Seriously the guy's been suspected in high school, college, and now test's positive in the pros for a blocker. Then denies it, get real.
88. Vikings- Pierre Allen,DE,Nebraska
This would be a decent value pick and give them some depth at a position they need it. He could compete for the starting job across from Jared Allen.
89. Ravens- Nate Solder,OT,Colorado
The Ravens are on the verge of trading or cutting their best Tackle in Jared Gaithers. If that happens they'll draft a Tackle early next year.
90. Packers- Kendrick Burney,CB,North Carolina
I thought the Packers would adress CB this year with a deep CB class. Fortunately for them next year's class looks deep as well.
91. Bengals- Jamie Harper,RB,Clemson
Even if the Bengals resign Ced Benson, they need to get a big, bell cow type back to back him up. Harper is 230 lbs and can run a forty in the 4.4's. He could raise his draft stock this year with more playing time now that Spiller is gone. For now I have him at this spot and this would be a good pickup for the Bengals, I'm not a fan of taking 1st round RB's unless someone like Ingram is sitting there when the Bengals pick. I think the O line has more to do with the running game than the back at this level. You see it all the time a lot of the best backs in the NFL are from the middle rounds, and they have good offensive lines in front of them. I could also see the Bengals take Justin Boren here if one of their undrafted or cut free agents pans out.
